Solar financing in India, specifically at a retail level, is a complex problem, however, it is one that must be pursued for many good reasons. The energy from the Sun was the past and will be the future. With advent of technology, its a megatrend of our generation we cannot miss.
After spending some time in the startup world, I realized that solar game in India is a matrix of many moving parts. One has to understand how consumers think, how electricity markets work, how lending works, how VCs think and how market participants behave. It’s further layered with cultural and local nuances.
I write this multipart essay to breakdown the key elements of rooftop solar financing in India. I speak to many stakeholders in the clean energy ecosystem on a regular basis and most of all, I enjoy chatting with entrepreneurs. I hope the thoughts here help them make better decisions.

Sun is the source of all forms of energy including fossil fuels which are mostly stored below the ground are polluting and other ill effects.
Renewables are directly from Sun, mostly solar(Electric) and thermal which are used. As these are becoming cheaper these are used and continue to be used with increasing content apart from other sources. Tropical countries have some advantages due to higher solar insolation which should be taken full advantage, I think.
